Steven Hastie Principle Financial Adviser and Lending Adviser

As cliché as it may sound, I was born to be an adviser. I’ve always been the go-to guy for money advice. From a young age, my mates would turn to me for advice for anything finance and money-related.

My entrepreneurial spirit kicked in at 16 when I launched my first business online. I went on to do the uni thing, excited to discover that I could build a career providing financial advice.

In 2014 I became a qualified adviser and by 2020, I’d launched Advice Street, combining everything I’d learned along the way.

Growing up as one of four kids, my parents didn’t have much to spare, so we couldn't go on a lot of holidays. Having control of my financial life and financial independence is important to me.

For me, it’s all about balance. I don't want to look back and feel like all I did was work. I help like-minded people make smart moves for the future without feeling caged in the present.

Outside the office, you’ll find me ocean swimming, hitting the sauna (or ice bath), or enjoying good food and wine with my wife and two dogs by my side.

If you ever meet me in person, I’m the 6ft 5 guy you can’t miss.

What does ‘financial freedom’ mean to you?

To me financial freedom means having the ability to live life without worrying about money. It’s about being able to live life on my terms, make choices based on what I truly want to do, and have the flexibility to enjoy life without the constraints of financial stress.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would it be?

It has to be Bill Gates. I love the fact that he’s lived multiple lives, and I admire his ability to evolve and keep giving back. I think I could learn a lot from him.

What is your favourite quote?

“Good things take time”

If you could live in any city in the world for a year, where would it be and why?

I would choose to live in New York City for a year. I love the high energy and fast pace of the city, where there’s always something happening.

What's your go-to karaoke song?

It would have to be "Eye of the Tiger," followed by “Survivor”
